#1: White Dream

The first time he opened his heavy-lidded eyes, the little boy was met with a clean, pristine white ceiling. Blank gaze lingered to a specific corner of the room full of gifts differed in shape and size. He finally remembered the reason he was there.

The boy's lithe body was not plastered on any type of machinery so he slowly stood up–despite the slight headache–and took a glimpse of the corridor outside. He was expecting a nurse to immediately see him only to escort him back to bed, but surprisingly, no one seemed to notice.

Little legs carried him to peer a certain room not that far from his. The door was opened slightly and there alone sat a young lady on the bed. It was a private room like his, but far less decorated to the point it looked almost bare.

"Where are all your get-well gifts?" He asked innocently, noting that there weren't even any flowers in the vase right next to the bed.

The lady chuckled lightly, not a slightest bit bothered by an unknown boy barging on her room.

"No one's visiting. Of course there are no gifts."

"Why?"

Fingers absent-mindedly curled against soft black locks as she pondered how to answer.

"I guess no one really knows me well enough to come."

The boy then sat at the nearby chair, looking curiously at the weak-looking lady. After a long glance, he noticed she looked young enough to still be a high-schooler.

"That's really sad."

A hand reached to pat his blond hair lightly, still full of smiles.

"Not really," she softly said.

Then he got an idea. The boy went back to his room to retrieve his purse and walked to the gift shop on the first floor. The lady was certainly surprised when he's back with a big, bouquet of flowers that looked expensive.

"I am a visitor so here's a gift for you!" the boy cheerfully said.

Weirdly enough, the lady didn't seem too happy to receive it, "Thank you, though you don't have to go through the trouble."

He had always thought flower was every girls' favorite! So not thinking much, he went back to the gift shop and this time, he bought colorful balloons.

"Now you won't be lonely!"

This time, she laughed and said jokingly,

"You sure are full of energy for a patient. Now, don't you think swaying balloons are scary at night? I might even get a heart attack when it pops."

Before she could stop him, the boy went out for the third time and brought back a book.

"It must be boring just laying around, so I bought you a book."

Third time's the charm, as he finally see her smiled genuinely at him. He hung around for a while until the lady suggested him to go back and rest. He complied and waved her goodbye, promised to visit again later. When The boy's finally back to his own room, he considered his options then chose to went back to sleep.

The second time he woke up, it was pretty much different than before. The ceiling was almost the same, save for the slightly visible stain spots. He tried to get up but several things were connected to different parts of his body, restricting his movement. Sounds finally registered on his mind, he could hear and see his parents right next to him, crying in relief. They said that he had been sleeping for days, almost weeks.

Some time later, when the boy was allowed to walk around, he went back to that room just like he promised.

And there she was, sitting there just like the first time he met her.

"Thank God, I almost thought it was just a dream."

The room was still bare just like he remembered it. Though strangely enough, none of his gifts were to be seen.

The boy told her that he was to be discharged soon and sadly, it's finally goodbye. She smiled pleasantly, patting his head again for some time before letting go.

"Listen. There are so many people who care so much about you, so you should cherish them, alright? I hope you can be a good adult. Maybe we can meet again someday."

He nodded happily and bid his farewell. The moment he was gone, she called a nearby nurse and asked for a favor.

"I think the title is 'Charming Sunday'. It would be great if you can buy it for me."
